Welcome to Duck Island Veterinary, where we put your pet's health first. 

Dr. Lisa Rini is the founder and director of Duck Island Veterinary. Dr. Rini opened the office after years of traveling on Long Island in her house call practice. The hospital opened its doors in 1997, and is a modern, clean, and fully equipped facility for both dogs and cats.

Lisa Rini, D.V.M.

Dr. Rini is a life-long resident of Northport and a graduate of Cornell University and MSU Veterinary College. She has been in practice for over twenty-five years. She specializes in health care and emergency services for dogs and cats and other small animals, including birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, and other pocket pets. In addition, she works with numerous veterinary specialists to provide her patients with the utmost veterinary care.

Lauren Hurley

Lauren has been a resident of East Northport for most of her life. As an animal lover, she decided to join this practice ten years ago to learn more about what the animal world has to offer, and has been here ever since! She owns one pit bull and loves to take long walks in her spare time. When she isn't at work, Lauren likes to bake and watch movies.

Melissa Pond, LVT

Melissa earned her Associate's Degree in Applied Sciences at Suffolk County Community College. As a lifelong animal lover, her passion for animal health care was solidified after she completed an internship in wildlife rehabilitation at Sweetbriar Nature Center. Happy to label herself a "crazy cat lady", she and her family own five cats and a golden retriever. She enjoys yoga, reading, and crocheting. She has thoroughly enjoyed her time working with Dr. Rini, and thanks everyone for their well-wishes on her move up to Buffalo.

Geanna Grosso, Vet Tech in Training

Geanna is starting in the Veterinary Science Technology program at Suffolk County Community College in the fall. She has always loved animals, especially her dog Luna, and her mom’s four Siberian Huskies. She is also an avid horseback rider who impresses her coworkers with videos of her jumping seamlessly.

Sharon Cimino

Sharon received her bachelor’s degree from New York University. She is thrilled to join Dr. Rini’s dedicated team of animal lovers and pet parents. Sharon volunteers for Shelterlink animal rescue and coordinates a local animal rescue in the village of Brightwaters where she resides with her husband, two daughters, two giant dogs, and eight cats. Sharon, along with her rescued newfoundland Bella Bear, also enjoys providing therapy to veterans, nursing home residents, and people with disabilities.

Lorraine Strebel

Lorraine has a great passion for animals. Born and raised in East Northport, she has been raised with animals all her life. Lorraine currently has four Siberian Huskies and three cats. In her spare time, she loves to cook, sew, and spend time with her husband and daughter

Valerie Wicks, Vet Tech in Training

Valerie is currently enrolled in the Veterinary Technology program at LIU Post and is working on her bachelor’s degree with plans to go on to veterinary school. Her hobbies include travelling, being a member of her school’s drum line, and going to concerts on the weekends.
